What is a selection?
A selection is a selection of customers in a customer database. The selection is selected based on different criteria.

When defining a selection in million Handshakes, all customer information is available. Examples of selection criteria can be age, sex, place of residence, customer segment etc.

Define your target group
Using a simple user interface, selection Designer makes it possible to create your own selections. A selection is defined by graphically setting logical criteria. Selection Designer includes an overview of all selection criteria. The customers in a selection can be viewed and counted using this tool.

Using Selection Designer does not require any database knowledge or knowledge of any underlying data models.

Advanced users can define selections using SQL.

How are selections used?
Selections are used in Dialog Designer to select customers participating in a customer dialog, or to handle specific groups specially.

Selection examples
Below are some examples of selections:

1. A selection can consist of customers having answered a specific question alternative in a questionnaire. Such an alternative can e.g. be an option for the customer to be contacted. A questionnaire is often a part of a customer dialog.
   
   
2. A selection can consist of all women between 30 and 40 years old, resident within a specified geographical area. We want to contact these customers in order to e.g. sell a specific product.
    
3. A selection can consist of all customers NOT having ordered any products the last 12 months. We want to follow-up these customers in a dialog to try to "reactivate" them.
    
4. A selection can select the customers having registered a complaint the last two months. We want to handle these customers with care in order not to lose them.
